MacKellar Associates, Inc. was
founded in 1923 when Malcolm MacKellar began his agency representing two woolen mills
selling woolen body cloth, upholstery and headliners to the Automotive Industry, which
included Packard Motor Company, Studebaker and the "Big Three". The original corporate offices
were located in the historical General Motors Building in Detroit, Michigan.
|
 |
At that time MacKellar
Associates was a one-man sales operation backed up by one secretary. This small but
efficient operation continued for over 20 years and developed a reputation of honesty,
integrity and excellent service. In the mid 1940's Malcolm's two sons joined the
organization. As the company grew, MacKellar Associates' reputation for hard work and
excellent service allowed for expansion into injection molded plastics and decorative
metal parts for the Automotive Industry. Larger quarters were required to handle the
larger staff. The offices were moved from Detroit to the Congress Building in Southfield.
|
 |
After several years passed, the third generation joined the family business.
Again, expansion was required and offices were moved to Birmingham, MI.
The company continued growth to approximately 10 employees. In 1988, the offices were
moved once again to the now corporate headquarters in Bloomfield Hills, MI. |
 |
MacKellar Associates' coverage continued to expand
and offices in Grand Rapids, MI and Columbus, OH were added. In the late 80's an
Electronics Division was introduced which represented Test Equipment and Printed Circuit
Board Manufacturers.
Additional offices were opened in Chicago, IL, Minneapolis, MN and Cleveland, OH. |
 |
To compliment some of the products that MacKellar was
representing, Burro Graphics was purchased in 1987. Burro Graphics is a screen printer
plant located in Rochester Hills, MI launching MacKellar owned manufacturing and a new
division in the Point of Purchase and Corporate Incentive Market.
In 1989 the fourth generation joined the family business.
Through continued growth a sales office was opened in New Albany, IN.
With the globalization of the Automotive Industry in the 90's, it became necessary to
include coverage in Mexico and Europe making MacKellar Associates a global company.
Soon there was the birth of two additional divisions which offered personalized
blankets and yarn distribution out of the Burro Graphics manufacturing facility.
In 1999 MacKellar started the MacKellar Automotive Division offering automotive embroidery and screen printing on seat backs, floor mats and door panels. To ensure the best quality product produced from our manufacturing facility, in 2003 MacKellar Automotive and MacKellar Incentive Marketing became ISO 9001 Registered!
From a one sales person agency to over forty five employees and four generations, with manufacturing capabilities, four regional offices and several diverse divisions, we are committed to servicing both our principals and our customers while continuing to expand the company into future generations. |
In February 2002,
MacKellar Incentive Marketing expanded its manufacturing facility and office space an
additional 3,000 square feet.
One month later,
MacKellar adds a brand new six head automatic screen printing press.
